Legal Zoom is a competitor. It is a franchise business for lawyers - Zoom does the advertising, pulls the client in and then refers the client to a local attorney, where some sort of fee splitting happens. On some matters - mainly Divorces, Wills and Incorporations - they sell directly to you and skip the inconvenient local guy. This is the way it is these days and I say fine, bring it on. But to survive against this type of competition I need to provide you a better product/service, one more specifically tailored to our North Carolina courts. So I have to be better, faster, cheaper than Legal Zoom. I am.

As a test I used the Legal Zoom site to produce a Will and an Uncontested Divorce - both areas where they are in direct competition with me. And I found there are good things and bad things about the Zoom experience. The good thing is that you can prepare Will or Divorce documents in your underwear at 2:00am. The bad thing is - especially for a divorce - you still have to print the documents, locate a notary, go to the court house, pay the filing fee, pay for service, schedule the divorce, and go to court to enter the divorce judgment - all for more money than what I charge to handle everything. As for a Will you must locate a notary and two (2) witnesses. And if you can do that in your underwear at 2:00am, well, you're pretty talented and don't need my help.

I discovered I am already cheaper than Legal Zoom. My full service divorce fee, which includes the filing fee, is less expensive than just getting the forms from Legal Zoom. And my do-it-yourself forms, filled in, ready for any county in North Carolina, are 1/3rd the Zoom price. My single Will is a bit more expensive but my price for two (2) Wills for a married couple is less expensive and also includes the notary, witnesses and copies. And I am faster than Legal Zoom. You can pay and process your Divorce or Will at our website with a credit card just like Zoom, with one big exception: you make a call for corrections and there is a real person at the other end of the line - my office. And if the documents are not right we will fix them at no additional charge. Better, faster, cheaper.
